Walk the famous paths of Kilimanjaro National Park with a guided day hike along the popular Marangu Route. Made for active travelers who do not have much time but want to feel the magic of the mountain, this trip offers a great mix of high-mountain nature and wildlife without needing to sleep in a tent.
Led by a professional mountain guide, you will climb from 1,860 meters to 2,700 meters, hiking through a beautiful, old rainforest. This healthy green area offers special chances to see black and white colobus monkeys and beautiful birds. The journey reaches the famous Mandara Hut, followed by a beautiful walk to the Maundi Crater for amazing, wide views of the Kenyan border and the snowy top of Mount Kilimanjaro.

Departure & The Marangu Gate (1,860m)
Into the Rainforest
Your adventure begins with an on-time morning pick-up from your hotel in Moshi. Enjoy a comfortable, beautiful one-hour drive going up to the Marangu Gate at 1,860 meters. After registering at the park, you will step right into the green rainforest of Kilimanjaro National Park.
As you hike, your expert mountain guide will share interesting facts about the mountain's rocks, local stories, and unique plants. The thick trees provide shade and a healthy home for groups of blue monkeys and the beautiful black and white colobus monkeys.
Midday
Mandara Hut (2,700m) & Maundi Crater
The First Camp & Crater Views
After 3 to 4 hours of steady, beautiful hiking at your own speed, you will step out of the forest and arrive at Mandara Hut (2,700m). Here, you will rest and enjoy a nicely prepared picnic lunch in the fresh, cool mountain air.
After lunch, take a short 15-minute walk to the edge of Maundi Crater. This great viewing spot offers amazing, wide views of the lands below and, on clear days, a beautiful look at Kilimanjaro’s snowy peak.

Walk Down & Return Journey
Walking Down the Mountain
After fully enjoying the beautiful mountain area, you will start your steady, two-hour walk back down through the rainforest trees to the Marangu Gate.
Your private driver will be waiting to take you comfortably back to your hotel. Relax, enjoy the sunset over the lands below, and think about the wonderful day spent on the Roof of Africa.
